How much give for engagement party?

How much $ or do you typically spend on an engagement part that is being held at a shul? Not super close with parents of the couple.

In our circles we do not give gifts at the engagement party. Are you a friend of the couple? You can either chip in with other friends to buy an appliance for the home. Maybe a gift card.
