Have you ever invested (small) money in short term options and made money?

How short term?
You can sometimes find real estate deals were they take out interest only loans so refinance quickly and you get a large chunk of your investment back fairly quickly while still owning stake. It’s 2-4 yrs. But with interest rates rising it’s hard to know if it will do as well in next few months/years.
Also need 100-200k
Or you can try buying and flipping homes after fixing them up.

Of course some people make lots of money in the short term. Many others lose even more. It's not worth the risk.

Usually the pattern is something like this:
1) Play around, make a little, lose a little (or more than you will admit).
2) You have some luck and score a big profit.
3)Tricks you into thinking you got the hang of it and have a consistent “risk free” strategy. You’re already dreaming of early retirement.
4)You go all in to accelerate profits.
5) You take a big loss.
6) You plow even more in to make up for the losses. You also get more aggressive and sloppy. The losses get huge and ugly.
7) (you can fill in this part..)

No one should invest for the "short term" because that is how you lose money.
Also if someone tells you that they can "guarantee" a large return in a short period of time run as fast as you can because the person is almost certainly a swindler.
For the short term you put your money in a safe place like FDIC guarantee money CD. You do not expect to "make money" but you just want the money to be there when you need it in a short period of time - because why else would you be asking about "short term investments".
You invest for the long term - you put money in investments that will appreciate based on long term strategic thinking and you leave your money there when the market goes down as well as when it goes down unless you are adjusting your portfolio and moving some of the investments to other types for investment goals.
