Yes, itā€™s an ongoing cycle with the kids being exposed again and again...

Yes, I know the best thing to do is too comb every day...

Alas, I do not have the time and mental energy to fight with a handful of sweetie dramatic princesses.
My back is also not happy to be in that awkward bent over lice checking position so often.
Neither is my gross tolerance for these yucky creepy crawlies improving with each caught louse- grandmother, grandfather, newborn or somewhere in between...

Any solution? Short of shaving off the hair or applying ez off chā€™v.

I think we tried all the so called ā€œnaturalā€ shampoos and sprays.
Really donā€™t want to go full on pesticide. Is there really no choice?

What are these zapper combs amazon touts as wonderful?

What do you mean by pesticides?

Would you do the 15 min spray that kills it?

A friend of mine swears by rosemary spray. She said that live donā€™t like the smell. I bought it after my kids had lice but couldnā€™t bring myself to use it because it smelled like food šŸ™ˆ

When I had lice at 14 I dyed my hair never got it again. I heard that they do it to Israeli kids because it's so prevalent there

You know, there is something to that blow drying. My kids have a recurrent lice problem. Sometime (yuck!) I get a few, too, usually after combing the kids at close distance.
I then give myself a good combing, wash and blow dry my hair on a hot setting and that does it. Once on vacation I had no hair dryer and had a much harder time getting rid of them.

It's all about the right comb!
Products don't work and u don't even need to comb everyday, every other day is fine too and if they're mostly clean you can even get by with once or twice a week.
You need a good comb though metal and long with tight spaces and when u pass it use a wipe to clean and see the lice come out.

Pantene āœ…
Rosemary hair products āœ…
Niska metal comb āœ…
Plus lice free comb plus another comb āœ…
(Ftr, you need to comb with multiple types of combs as they each target a different size nymph/louse etc)
You also need to comb north south east and west with each comb. When youā€™re done comb again. Youā€™ll be sad to see the comb have some crawlies... (granted, thatā€™s at the beginning of a bad outbreak)

At this point weā€™re at maintenance and onto the 3rd or 4th lice free, vamouse- and I donā€™t remember other names offhand shampoo.

Iā€™ll respond with my comments on some of the other suggestions soon.
In the interim please keep em coming!

You may just hit the remedy we havenā€™t tried *yet* šŸ„³

Once youā€™re on top of it- how do you maintain it with other girls roaming around with head full of lice?

I combed N,S,E,W thoroughly, each section until I finally got it all out. Did it without shampoo or conditioner. Then did a follow up with conditioner. Followed up the next day again. After that BH we were clean. This was after going to a specialist and we kept on finding more.

Also wash the linen and towels in hot water every day.

We spray mint mouth wash onto the hair. Lots, until the hair is soaked. Then put a shower cap over the hair and the child sits for about 45 minutes to an hour and then washes it out. Then we comb with a lice comb, a lot. The lice do not like mint. It works each time.

Anything hot is fine.
This won't get rid of nits. But if you've done the other clearing out methods this definitely and absolutely will keep it away.
The kyolic is gross for some kids. Bribe them! It works magic (It's actually healthy and will keep the colds away too.)

I used rosemary shampoo (made by the same company) for weeks after my child had lice. I heard the same thing, that lice do not like the rosemary smell.

My daughter would get lice just by looking at someone with lice. I tried everything under the sun including all of these suggestions (blow drying works some, combing is really the only thing that works)

I found 2 things that worked
1. My daughter has frizzy hair as well so a friend recommended https://www.arbonne.com/us/en/.....%20US to keep Ms. Frizzle at bay. I was very pleased that it kept lice and nits away. You need to be very on top of getting all the hair sprayed up, I also sprayed it 2-3 times a day just to be sure.

2. Not to get political but someone I know used ivermectin on their kid following a doctor's advice and that kid who was usually infested with lice suddenly became lice and nits free. I put my daughter on it as well, her molluscum is gone, the wart on her finger is gone, and she has had exactly 0 nits or lice in the last 3 months.
