My son was really sick all shabboss vomiting non stop and having bad diarrhea, running high fever...So I went to see my pediatrician Motzia Shabbos and apparently I'm not alone, there is a very bad virus going around and he said he had three kids hospitalized for dehydration. My son is refusing to drink pedialyte, is there anything else I should try to give him. the dr. says no juice.

you can give your child white grape juice and water. 1:2.

rice water. boil the rice in water, and spoonfeed him the water (cooled).

Why not? I don't remember doing that simply because I don't remember which age, and which child it was that I heard about it and did it. it was effective.

I don't understand why you can't give juice. My doctor always says to give apple juice 1 part to 4 parts of water.

Sounds like rotavirus. Blech. We just finished with it here. Very watered down juice is fine, just not full-strength. Pedialyte (store bought or home made electrolyte solution) is ideal, but watered down juice is far better than nothing for keeping the kids out of the ER!

I usually give tea. with a bit of sugar in it.. it works and the kids get better on it..
