I usually end up spending about £70 over the week and another £40 for shabbos,
2 adults, one 8 mth old
but ladies I do not cook like you, chicken meat = 4/5 times a week, and the rest fish or dairy

but I usually serve a soup, protein, carbohydrate and veg side dish. plus fresh cut up fruit (melon, mango, salad...)
and we eat a lot of that (ok not me my husband)

how are you satisfied with a bean salad, or just a pasta dish?

I forgot to add that any meat/chicken I buy for Shabbat I usually buy for the next week too. If I don't do Shabbat (we go out or whatever) I spend £25-£30 for the week. That is included in the amount I gave before.

I also cook a lot of chicken/meat since DH doesnt like fish or dairy and I need extra protein, so this is the easiest way for me to get it. I sometimes get fish for myself.

I think we may be starving judging by some of these posts Confused

WE spend when teens not here and just three little one plus two adults approximatley 150.00 a week.
When the teens are here one can almost double that. Remember too that this includes even non grocery items such as napkins, toilet paper, shampoo, laundry deterg etc.

I do buy a lot of no name brand stuff we rarely eat meat, though lots of chicken. And I do make a lot of things from scratch challah, cakes, cookies, ice cream etc

We make homemade everything - yogurt, grape juice (INCREDIBLE!!), beans (never buy canned), baked goods (bread, muffins, desserts, challah, etc.), ice cream, soy milk, tofu (super easy!), jam, etc., etc., etc. And my husband daydreams about raising our own lambs and tilapia.

I would love to hear what you do. Care to share?

Do you mean for a living??? I teach music lessons 4 hours/week at home. DH works in distance learning for a School of Nursing... and was formerly a fish farmer and fish disease specialist. Smile

Any suggestions about where to find coupons? (Aside from shopping on the circular) I remember my mother always had a whole envelope full of coupons....

The kids had been asking for pizza with increasing frequency, and didnt understand why I kept saying no. I explained to them that the cost of the pizza (40 nis at the time, we need two pies = 80 nis for one meal without veggies) was exorbitant compared to what I spend on the average family dinner.

We went through this recently, and our solution was to make pizza ourselves at home. It was sooooo much better than the store's! Seriously, my mother even tasted it and said she could never go back to store pizza after mine. We don;t even have a pizza stone either (yet!), we just make it in foil trays. Give it a try!

Actually, it doesn't just taste better than the store's, it's a whole family fun day. We all help make the pizza. This time around my husband even rolled out two of the doughs, and I even made th sauce myself so it should taste fresh (it did). And what child doesn't love to sprinkle cheese? It tastes heavenly, and we stuff ourselves with plenty leftover for less than the price of one pizza at the store. We are planning to buy some pizza stones and give that a try as well. Smile

Probably an average of $225 a week for 2 adults and 3 kids. Food prices have gone up a ton. Two years ago I was spending about $500 a month, and feeding my family better.
