You need to have signed up in advance to receive, it doesn't go instantly by week. However there are a lot of people giving away extra food. If you're staying in any kind of colony then ask the people around you what happens with extra food.

Are you near a colony? Who do you hang out with?
I think there is a distribution site that you might be able to go and ask if they have extra, but I don't know where becuase mostly they're delivering to people's homes.

I'm one or two towns over from Liberty but I don't hang out with anyone except my family, I don't know anyone else here.

Try calling the Hebrew Day School of Sullivan County. They are one of the distributors, maybe they can give you some info. To be honest it's probably not worth your time if you're just there for a week but I guess it doesn't hurt to ask.
