Im BH happily married, enjoying my work but my kids are away at school, married etc.
I get lonely too.
My friends all made aliyah one by one to join their kids in Israel.
Over time I found myself isolating and feeling lonely.
I finally decided enough is enough.
I started going to shul every shabbos and saying hi to everyone.
When I saw a cluster of women in a small circle I stood near them and slowly participated in the conversation. Usually it was about something incredibly boring like what oven to buy or color of wall paint or pilates class but eventually I became fully involved in the topic at hand.
Was this uncomfortable for me?
ABSOLUTELY!
But over time women invited me to join a shabbos shiur, a book group and even a weekly majong game.
By taking action I managed to find different ways to make friends.
It may feel incredibly uncomfortable to put yourself out there and YES, absolutely there is an element of vulnerability, but ultimately you WILL begin to make connections.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!
