We just bought our leased car and our registration expires in two weeks.
We wont get the paperwork for at least 2 weeks to register as owner.

I believe you can register it anyway. We just had this same situation. We waited until we got the paperwork and got two tickets in the interim. And then when we got the paperwork and went to the DMV, my husband came home and told me we could have just registered it before. I don’t know the details. Call your local DMV.

If you register online you should be able to print a temp registration

Problem solved. Registration has nothing to do with ownership. Title has to do with ownership.
