I think you leave the flame on for a bit after you're done, and burn the stuff, then get a grill brush/scraper and scrape it off...

I tried that! I have been scraping for 45 minutes! I left it to soak overnight in the sink

did you leave it burning closed before you scraped?
once it's pretty charred, it crumbles pretty easily...
Do you have the heavy duty grill brush with the scraper bit?
