Trying to not to forget to say Brachos over food. (yes, it happens to me). The Brachos I say, I try to say aloud. I also have been trying to hear other family members say their Brachos so I can answer Amain. Trying to daven mincha.

No non Jewish music. I canceled my Spotify subscription (so I save money win-win) and made a Jewish music playlist on Amazon music.

I’d love to stop Netflix. I can’t 😬

I’m also reading the Orange Rhino. I hope that will spill over into my life…

Sigh. Last Elul and the one before I felt like I was growing so much. Between Covid and the multiple tragedies we'd been hit with, I was taking on several kaballos at a time, really keeping track of how I was doing with them, and seeing real growth. Things like being patient with my kids at a specific time of day that was hard for me, calling a relative who lives alone once a week (instead of "sometime" -- which meant once a month or less), having kavanah during a certain part of davening, avoiding a nasty habit I'd gotten into, etc. And it wasn't even just during Elul, I was on such a high that I'd keep it up for the long term and take on new things several months later when I felt I'd mastered the couple I was working on.

This year I'm having a difficult pregnancy (B"H!!! just still hard) and everything has gone out the window. Davening the bare minimum, cutting all possible corners in all areas in order to survive. I want to take on something for Elul but other than "make sure my kids have clean clothes to wear" and "don't collapse at the end of the day and throw everything onto DH," I feel like I don't even have the emotional strength to have the willpower to STOP doing anything bad, forget about adding on anything good.

But this thread has motivated me to try. So I wake up in the morning very slowly these days due to some of the pregnancy symptoms, and I've decided to take on saying EITHER modeh ani, netillas yadaim, asher yatzar, or elokai while actually thinking about the words instead of on autopilot. I'd love to say all, but right now at least saying I'll do one of them means that I have a few backups when I forget or get distracted...

What a Beautiful thread.

I am working on not watching TV clips on YouTube.

No secular music.

No secular dance clips.

It's hard.
