My baby is 8 months old. I put him down for a nap around 3.5 hours after he wakes up when he is showing signs of sleepiness. However, he always becomes wide awake when I put him down. The room is dark and I try playing soft music. He usually cries for about 20 and tires out and goes to sleep. I sit near his crib and pat and shush him but I feel terrible about his crying. Is this normal? I feel really guilty when he cries like this.

my kids always cry at nap time and often at bedtime. crying is a way for them to express their feelings. it’s ok. also 3.5 hours seems like a long time for an 8 month old but I could be wrong. I would try giving him a nap a little earlier

He might be overtired. Play around with the time. Perhaps getting him ready for a nap 20 mins earlier will help.

Thanks! The reason I stretched it until 3.5 is he never seems tired at 3 hours. He sleeps around 12.5-13 hours a night.
