Hi we have a family simcha today in which we were told to dress in lavender. I have a white skirt that would go beautifully with my lavender top. Just in my head I hear “you cant wear white after labor day.”

If it's warm and it is a daytime simcha, I don't see the problem with it (although I tend not to wear white skirts at all because they are not practical).

Labor Day is not relevant
What’s relevant is the weather outside 
Assuming it’s not cold where you live, and it looks good on you, and suits your needs…go for it

I wouldn't wear a white skirt the day after labor day for fear of it becoming bloody.
(I opt for a hospital gown, otherwise black pjs)

Random but the hug on your comment made me think about how amusing it would be if, during an in-person conversation, a woman came up to you and gave you a quick hug right after you said that, or the other comments that get weirdly hugged on this site.
