Our family is going through a difficult time, and I want to make RH special for my children and lift the mood a bit.
Does anyone have ideas to help me do this?

Buy a good kids book on R"H and read it out loud at the meal, showing the pictures. Make their favorite food (even if that is franks in blankets). Make a special dessert. Buy a new puzzle to work on together. Buy a new game to play with together. Present each boy with a new yarmulka and girl with a small necklace after you light the candles the first night.

I really try every year to buy each kid a new Jewish book. I also buy the magazines (Mishpacha and Ami). Food and nosh also make it special. So a honey cake or apple pie for those that like sweets, a meat for the men/boys. New clothing and/or shoes if you can afford, or a new headband or manicure for the girls.

Have you bought honey yet? Honey biscuits? Decorative apples, special serviettes, honey jar? Put it all out on a sideboard with the kids already in preparation to make them excited for yom tov.
Did you keep last years rosh hashono cards and books they made in school? Take them out before or in yom tov and look through them.
Just ideas which helps us create the spirit of yom tov.
Hatslocho and a good gebensht and easy year!!!
