How do I pack it? I don’t want to wear it, and have very limited space in my carry on and my suitcase.

I used something like this. (Not exactly, I bought mine local.)
When I was traveling for a wedding, I had my sheitel macher pack it for me after she did my wig for the wedding.

When I last flew (5 years ago), I took the box separately.
I also stuffed a bunch of books into it

I take a small plastic box with a lid. (It was used for storing crayons.). It's slimmer than a cardboard shoebox, and doesn't get crushed.
