The idea sounds nice but dunking in unclean water isn’t…

I did it the first Yom Kippur married and never looked back.

How is it different than being in a swimming pool with other people?
They all have chlorine or saltwater.

I voted yes, chasidish.

this year I went sunday night after my period and I'm so so relieved to get away with it.
I go every year cuz it's really important to DH.

I went tonight to Dunkin for real. I was so super impressed with the mikvah I use. They have special hours tomorrow for those who want to go before Yom Kippur and tonight was for those of us who needed to go.

Do you have to do all the preps when going to Mikvah erev Yom Kippur? What is the purpose for this?

No prep. They ask that you shower before.

I don't go Erev Yom Kippur.

However, last year Erev Yom Kippur was my regular mikvah night. It was very special to have that experience. The mikvah was filled with announcements for the next day. The parking lot was much more filled than normal. Nice experience. Although this year since I'm not going it's also nice to not be racing around for mikvah.

The purpose is to cleanse yourself and prepare for the day. Sort of like why men go to the mikvah.

Not in my neighborhood. I don’t even think the Mikvah is open here. I’ve never heard of this minhag till imamother and based on the poll it’s clear this is a chassidish minhag (which is why I hadn’t heard of it prior)

I make sure to tell my daughters and daughters in law that this is a strong minhag, but not required as their first responsibility is to their family.

It's easy for this minhag to get lost if a mother does not mention it.

What neighborhood are you in? Did you check if it's open, or are you assuming? It's a pretty widespread minhag.

I'm not chassidish and my neighborhood is mostly litvish. Mikvah is packed erev YK. I personally love it, there's something so unique about it that gets me in the right frame of mind for yom hadin. I feel like we spend so much effort in preparing our neshama and then I get to prepare my body as well.

There are no preps, you can go with nail polish and makeup. Like the men.
I usually go 7am and I'm in and out quickly.

I believe this minhag is Hungarian. Although most Hungarians today are chassidish, my family is not. I still go. I wonder if my siblings go.... I see lots of minhagim that are falling away. My Grandmothers wouldn't go to a Levaya or beis hachayim without a double head covering. I don't even own such a thing.... The chassidim seem to be strong with maintaining the minhagim and mesorah.

For future reference, 'never looked back' usually means you have continued to do the thing ever since then. Smile
