I would be just fine with salmon and potatoes, but I think my husband wants meat and soup too….

I always find these responses fascinating. Not because I haven’t heard of hoshana rabba seudah (though I hadn’t before imamother) but because I didn’t realize people have a ‘regular seudah’ menu. I make what I want for shabbos and Yom tov. There is no ‘regular’ menu. The word ‘regular’ just isn’t in my lexicon regarding menus.

I think people love inventing reasons to create extra work for themselves.

My family is welcome to make themselves a bagel or whatever cereal and milk they like while I’m in the kitchen making another four meals for second days.

It's not invented. It's mesorah. Hoshana is the day that your yr is sealed. A day of tefilla. Kreplach are eaten to symbolize the chet getting covered up

Nobody is inventing anything. Many people have a minhag to have a seudos Yom Tov on Hashana Rabba. Often the women go to shul that day too. Please don’t mock peoples minhagim and traditions. I’m glad you found what works for you.

We make and store buy fancy dairy
Like Shavuos
For us that’s special because we usually have meat and with so many YT nights and Shabbos it’s different

Maybe pita topped with zaatar and Parmesan cheese, ravioli (like kreplach), pasta in mushroom sauce, roasted broccoli,
spinach and cheese pie or quiche, ice coffee, cheesecake, yollo pudding,
Mostly store bought

Those who are unable to add cooking (I get it!), there have been years we did deli subs.
We have a fleishig seudah for reasons other than me wanting more work 🤪

I’m canceling this year. I just cannot. It’s all too much. There’s no room to breathe and something has got to give. Feel bad but it is what it is. Normally I’d do challah and soup with kreplach maybe salmon but nope not this year. Also there’s no time to sit and have a seuda. I need to shop and cook on Sunday and clean the house and get kids bathed etc. I’ll be Lucky y if I eat anything other than coffee.

Wow this is all totally new to me, never heard of a seudah on Hoshana Raba!
When do you eat the seudah? Do you all sit down together, around the table, like Yom Tov?
