I'm due very soon IY"H and can't decide! I like Bayla more than Baila, but I don't know if I love Baylie. We're planning to use the nickname more than the full name. Please help me decide.

I agree with you but I dislike Baila less than I dislike Baylie. Really don’t like Baylie.

Why do the two sets have to go together?
Why can't you write Bayla, and then for a nickname, write it differently?

Is that too complicated though? I grew up with a unique name and a unique spelling, I guess I'm a little reluctance to do something a little more difficult for my child, but maybe I'm just projecting lol.

I don’t think the issue is the spelling, it’s the name.
I hate Bailey or Baylie.

Yes, it's way too complicated to spell the first part of the name differently for main name and nickname. If you do that, people will 100% absolutely mess it up.

If you're going to use Bailey more often, spell it the way you prefer and make the first name match.

I think it's adorable!

(But I also really like the name Baila too!)

Naming your children is pretty personal. It’s completely immaterial that you don’t like the name she plans to call her child.

Ay pronounced in a chassidish way is ‘eye’. Thus it would be not spelled that way. I’ve seen chassidish kids named Beila called Bella or Beilu. Not so much Baylie.

Op was asking opinions on the spelling.
Not if you liked the name or nickname.
She's clearly planning to call her daughter this.
Would you walk over to a mother and tell her you don't like her child's name?
I hope that's obvious.
I never understand how people can go on about particular names and how much they don't like them, when others are saying that that's their child's name. Obviously if I'm asking "Do you like the name George", all kinds of answers are expected.
But if I ask, "What nickname is more common for Patricia, Patty or Trish," I should not be getting responses "Ew Patricia? What a horrible name!"

This was actually the first time I encountered imamother- I was doing a google search, trying to get info on my daughter's uncommon Yiddish name. I found a thread about names, where my duaghter's name was brought up, and I quote "What a disgusting name! It sounds like [derogatory word that I will not rewrite]"

I think Bayla is a very pretty name (it's my mother's name).
Personally I would use "Bay" as a nickname for Bayla.
I really like the sound of it.
