A lot of hats will fit over a wig, just go to a store and try on caps in different sizes
A pony or short wig will probably be best.
If you go the scarf route, there are SPF options
I'd look through Coolibar and see what there is in terms of scarves and hats with SPF protection

When are you coming, and which part of the country will you be visiting? Right now in Jerusalem it is overcast with a chilly wind, and I'd be more concerned about potential rain protection than sun protection.

Plenty of people in Israel wear hats or mitpachot all the time. I would guess they are at least as common as sheitals.
March the weather can go either way, and there will be a lot of variation in different parts of the country.

I live in Israel and wear a pretied tichel most days. Sometimes I wear a sheitel.
Chareidi women often wear scarves here.

The mistake I made was only taking one wig. It would have been good to be able to switch off between two. Traveling doesn’t kill your wig for good. It’s fine again after a wash and set.
I did change into a snood on the plane and when we went to a separate beach. |
My shaitel got ruined for good on my trp to Israel. Maybe because I also wore a cap on it. It was terrible, even after washing and setting a few times. Between the sun and trips that involve sand, like jeeping, it was over even though I only got it about 7 months before. Now I switch into a tichel when I do the sandy messy activities... my next trip I'd love to get a band fall that I can wear with different head coverings such as a cap, bandana
