What is more appreciated cash or gift?
I know everyone likes cash but in a way I want to get her something I know she’ll use and appreciate for herself and not spend on groceries ..

I'm not going to use money for myself when my kids don't have gloves, as much as you try.
I find a gift card is a good balance because it symbolizes "use it for you" but doesn't lock into it.
If you know where she gets coffee/ baked goods from, you can get her a gift card there, but don't give a teacher who holds CY a Dunkin donuts gift card

A gift certificate to Db electronics or judaica store is nice.
It doesn't get used to pay the bills and can be used to buy something useful or not. Her choice!
