I bought dark chicken cutlets yesterday at bingo. Best by date on package is 11.30.
Been in my fridge since then
Forgot to put it in freezer yesterday…
Just took it out to portion it and freeze and it has a smell. Not crazy bad but def not great. Think it’s okay to use? Was a family pack….Sad

You can return it to the store if you think it's not fresh.

Try to rinse it and then see what it smells like.

Not going back to store. It’s way too far for me like half hour each way…
I already portioned it and ignores the smell and then I’m like-who am I kidding even if it’s $35 dollars…

I think it smells a tad better after I rinse it. What would that mean?

I recently had a similar situation. I opened the package of chicken and smell hit me. It wasn't a bad smell though, just a strong chicken smell. IME, fresh chicken doesn't really smell, chicken that's around a few days gets a smell, but not a bad smell. I used the chicken, relying on the sell by date and it was fine.

Neither would I. It’s too risky.

I would not use any other type of chicken with a smell, but dark chicken cutlets tend to have a distinct smell regardless of how fresh it is. I stopped buying it for this reason. But it doesn't mean it is not fresh.
