Are there any nice ideas that aren't pricey and can be meaningful, memorable and fun?

I like the idea but then only the males can swim.

Go on a nature hike and have a picnic.

Work in a soup kitchen together.

A chesed activity. Packing food boxes for the needy, making gifts for orphans, etc.

A bar mitzva is celebrated by a seudas mitzva

It’s a boy taking on the mitzvos, it’s a special monumental occasion.

It calls for a formal meal.

No need for expensive lighting and entertainment

As long as you have hamotzi and bentching it’s a formal meal

What about a breakfast after tefillin
More is not needed
Bagels, cream cheese, tuna, egg salad, if you want a hot dish shakshuka set up in a pan with steno under.

What time of year is the Bar Mitzvah? Can you do something outdoors? I have been to beautiful and casual backyard BBQ Bar Mitzvahs.
