Would just say "We just got another suggestion that we're looking into, but I'd be happy to hear a little more, and I'll get back to you if it becomes relevant."
(But I wouldn't tell the son/daughter who is dating that they have another offer waiting if this one doesn't work out. They make take the dates less seriously as they know there's always someone else who could be better.)
