So I made doughnuts and plan to make some more later.
Is it gross and/or unhygienic to store the oil already used in a closed container to reuse again?

I do it all the time.
Not gross or unhygienic, though maybe very unhealthy.
My MIL was horrified when she heard I do that, but my mother always does, and I still do!

Ok great!
How many times would you keep reusing the same oil?
I use so much oil at a time and feel like with chanukah, I'll be running out of oil every other day ..

You can definitely reuse it. But it’s best to filter it first.

I reuse it a few times.
If it starts to look yukky I'll get rid of it sooner.
Chanukah I for sure reuse!
I find with doughnuts it stays nice and clear (as opposed to kibbeh, empanadas, and for sure chicken nuggets)

YES! the oil from the doughnut was mostly clear...
Not sure if I would reuse with fried schnitzel though

This so nice to know that I'm not the only one who considers doing this!

Legally in the US, oil in a deep frier is changed q. 30 days.
I think it is gross, but that is the law.

Lol same here!

I never reuse from shnitzel, more from deep frying things (like the sephardi items I mentioned)

Hey, you're pretty advanced making donuts already!
Have you started cleaning for Pesach? Very Happy

Another quick question, the reused oil doesn't need to be refrigerated right?

Through couple of layers of cheesecloth, or thin metal strainer. You can also carefully pour out good oil to a different pot leaving impurities on the bottom.

I was going to say don't do it as deep fried oil is believed to be cause cancer.
When oil is heated to very high degrees the chemical structure changes.
However if you do it once a year at chanukka time it's not a catastrophy.
Reusing oil several times and year around: No.

Is it gross to reuse oild that schnitzel was fried in for latkes?
There are some breading and remnants in oil but I really that I go through it by the gallon.
The oil is sitting still in the frying pot now waiting for me to make my decision... Lol

That much I wouldn't do, but maybe if you strain it...
Also then the latkes are fleishig!
