My son is requesting for supper tonight..I bought frozen pizza rounds, and Chopped meat.
All I need is a recipe Smile.
Don't think I can buy tamarind paste or anything exotic.. I don't mind of it's not really authentic. Just a somewhat tangy meat sauce I guess..
Thanks!

Needs the prune butter or you can go to jglatt and in their freezer section they have the ready made sauce that you just mix with the chopped meat. You can even make the whole batch and freeze some raw to pop in before shabbos:)

You can use natural lemon juice and sugar the doble amount of lemon to sugar put in a pan and let it simmer until it gets very little darker like a light caramel color and you can make the meat mixture with this instead of the tamarind

Sounds good thanks! If I can't easily find prune butter I'll do that

Sorry for assuming! My recipe is from my aunt if you would like it I can send it.
Prune butter is usually found by the jams in your grocery. Last forever in the fridge and my recipe only calls for half a cup to 2lbs of chopped meat so it'll last you.

Prune butter can be hard to find. (I stock-up when I find it because this is a fav in our house- very similar recipe, but we use ketchup, not paste). I have been told that you can use apricot butter (or jam, blended) or apple butter. If you use apricot, add a bit more lemon.

It is not a difficult ingredient to find at a good grocery store. You probably haven't seen it because you never looked.

It is either in jam section or some of the stores around me have "ethnic" aisles which carry Jewish/Eastern European foods and it can be found there. It is a standard filling for Hamantaschen as well.

You could actually make it if you wanted - it's not difficult but I think it's easier to buy. It's essentially stewing prunes but for a bit longer and adding spices

It also freezes really well cooked. I try to keep some in the freezer so I can always heat it last min for Friday night or Shabbos morning. I make flat packages with the lachmagine face to face with parchment in the middle then wrapped in foil.

I found it very hard to find prune butter lately and my family can't go without lachmagine for so long so out of desperation I googled prune butter and got a recipe. It's so easy to make that I stopped trying to find prune butter and make my own now.
If you would like the recipe I'll post it later.

Isn't prune lekvar the same as prune butter?
I believe most stores sell that and I used it in the past in my lachmagine recipe.

"Millennial Kosher" cookbook has a recipe that uses apricot jam. We love this version.
