Ok, I know about inflation, but still. This sounds like a lot. I would rather not send to camp but it's hard with a preteen whose friends are all going to camp.
Is everyone able to afford this?

Unfortunately where I live this has been standard for a while and at this point 1000 is a bargain. It's hard but what can you do.

Sounds like a steal compared to the camps where I am. But what bothers me more is that the prices go up like this (fine, inflation is a thing) but we still have to tip the counselors because they basically don't pay their staff. So where is the money going???

Full price for my boys was 960 each for 4 weeks. In Chicago.

They have 3 weeks of school camp which is a different fee.

I applied for a scholarship and they gave me around 150 off per kid, there is a discount for sending the full 4 weeks, and an agudah membership discount.

Then I pay it off in payments.

Keeping them home would be trading one set of issues for another.

1000$ a half!? Where? I’m signing up. My day camp raised their prices almost 20 percent. It’s now 2500 for the summer up to fourth grade

Probably because it's run like a business and they are making a profit.

Age and community matter a lot.
In Lakewood, last year, I paid $500-$600 per half for younger elementary school. But the prices go up by the age. So 5th and 6th grade is easily $850/$900 a half and 7th and 8th grade $1000 or more a half.
At least in Lakewood, boys only have day camp for 1 half. And many girls by 6th grade, for sure 7th grade will only go to daycamp 1 half, but get a job helping in backyard camps the other half.

I didn’t get anything from my kids daycamp yet (Lakewood) but my daughter is still in regular daycamp which is cheaper than teen camp. She is 10. I’ve heard next years daycamp costs a lot more. I’d guess a lot has to do with your daughter being a preteen.

I live OOT and it's $750 per half, but there's no food and no busing. Camp is from 9-3:30 which is also a pretty short day

ETA: this only goes up to 4th grade.

Oh, I didn't know OP is talking about daycamp. But $1000 per half is normal price for daycamp nowadays unfortunately.

I paid 1k per half last summer in Brooklyn. Full summer came out a little less than that.

I'm comparing to last year. Sent to the exact same camp. It was under 800 (maybe 765)?
I don't know, am I living in LaLa land? This is only one kid! I don't make enough money to send all of my kids for this price for one half! It's not even worth it for me to work! Are people paying this much just to keep their jobs?

Did that child switch divisions? Aside from getting more expensive year to year they also get more expensive as they get older.
