I personally think it's crazy that the expectations were I live (Lakewood) are to get your daughter in law a tennis diamond bracelet. Where did this “minhag” come from, was it around for a long time and what is the purpose behind it. Thanks!

Minhag of jewelry for the kallah is still from the Torah.
Standards and styles are community based but no one is obligated to follow if they can’t afford it!

They are not actual tennis bracelets, they are tennis style & start at $1400.
Made of chips & dust to look like tennis.

Pave isn’t chips and dust! Or if it is, it’s beautiful fairy dust

True but you can’t make your kalloh feel cheap and shortchanged by giving her something below the accepted standard

It’s not a tennis bracelet! It’s just a tennis style bracelet made with diamonds chips. Costs no different than my kallah bracelet I received ten years ago, about $2000. I know you can get for cheaper.
A tennis bracelet is made of actual diamonds and will cost between 5k-70k depending on the size of the diamonds

I got married in 2001 and kallah bracelets were a thing. I’m from out of town and I got a plain gold bracelet, but my in laws didn’t have money. However, in town friends from the same time period got diamond bracelets. This is not a new thing.
