We are wondering what relatively inexpensive areas in the United States have a decent yeshivish population (100+ families). Yeshivish would be defined as families where the husband learned in kollel for a few years, and the boys are encouraged to learn in bais medrash rather than attend college after high school.

If you know of a city / neighborhood that fits the criteria, please let me know.

Thank you very much.

I’m super happy in chicago and it meets your basic idea but housing has gone nuts and it’s not affordable anymore.

Cleveland housing has also gone up, but it’s still cheaper relative to other areas.

Another vote for Waterbury. In proximity to other larger frum communities- about 2 hrs to NYC, monsey, Boston, etc- but houses can still be bought in the 200s and 300s.

Is Baltimore still considered affordable?
What about Milwaukee? Philly?

“Affordable” means different things these days—
Interest rates have skyrocketed, so even if you find something, which is unlikely in several cities, it’s not just about the very inflated prices. Unless you’re able to plunk it all down in cash. Sad

Philly is an amazing community and you can find homes there for around 600 thousand, but most of the prices are above that and up to 1.5 mil. I love the community though, and it's close enough to lakewood, Teaneck, NYC, and long Island

Scranton?

Kingston (about 25 min away) really exploded with Chabad families, I'm not sure why Scranton didn't see similar growth with yeshivish families.
