I understand that some of these meds cause children to have tics. My husband has some very bad tics, and I'm concerned that my son who was just put on meds for ADHD will start exhibiting some of these tics, as well. My DH, who I believe has ADHD, was never diagnosed or placed on meds, but surely these tics are inherited. I'm wondering whether going on the meds is worth it, if it will surely bring on tics.

My son has both tics ( inherited ) & ADHD. The adhd is causing both problems @home & in school …. We waited wayyy too long to get him properly evaluated & to start treatment
Yes the doctor told us that stimulant drugs can increase tics ( but in our case would be needed anyway ), but first for the time being he started him on Intuniv which will help w/ overall behavior & adhd & helps w/ ticks & will later on add a stimulant
My advice is if your home situation & or school situation is not what it should be…. Your child needs to be treated for ADHD .
