From my family growing up:
"Funny chicken" for an apricot chicken with ketchup as part of the dressing, because my brother found it funny that my mother was putting ketchup on the chicken.

My son pronounced "hand sanitizer" as "hanzitizer".
Now our family uses the noun "hanzitizer". The corresponding verb is "hanzitize" (obviously).

Zurech for zip ties.
Because somebody Zurech is the king of zip ties in our community.
He puts together pisom veramseis with zip ties.

And in our community we call a foil candle holder which go into the leichter a “Zishe “ for the same reason!

In our family we have orange potatoes and red potatoes. Orange potatoes are hash browns, the paprika makes it orange, and the red potatoes are potatoes with red peels.

We eat schnitzel fish- breaded flounder.

Mandlin in the soup get called "pillows" because they get all soggy and plump.

We offer white milk or brown milk (plain or chocolate milk).

I think this one is common but the immersion blender is the zhuzher and the verb is to zhuz soup.

We say shmoopy instead of poopy Smile

My friend’s son is called shmoopy!! (My daughter, who is a year younger than him) calls him shoompy.
She also said “flort” instead of fort, and that’s what we all call it now.

Bluebellies - blueberries

Wagoning- you know that sound babies make when they're just vocalizing with a bottle or pacifier and it sounds like an old wagon? We call it wagoning. ,"No she's not crying, she's just wagoning"

Zhuzher!! All the way.

My mom called ponytail holders “cheps” (ch like cheese). Super embarrassing for my sisters and me to realize that literally no one else on the planet (except my grandma a”h) called them that.

ETA: none of our friends had any idea what we were talking about when we said, “I have a chep so I can give you a ponytail.”

DH and I call it “bonkies” when DC trips or bonks into furniture.

Pul-la-lahs are pulkies as named by my then two year old ds (I hurt my pul-lah-lah)

Dunk (Doonk) is a place that things fall where you can't easily reach them (behind the couch, in a crack, between two car seats) I always wondered if this was Yiddish.

Pooch is dust, but I think this really is Yiddish.

Shmurble is a piece of hair sticking up on top when you make a pony tail. (I look terrible, I have a shmurble).

We call nonpareils non pohrilles because we had neighbors the pohrille family. when my dd (now 16) was little she heard me say nonpareils and assumed I was talking about them & that the little ballies were named for them.

(Thank you for making this amotherable because I sooo wanted to post this but EVERYONE who knows us knows this about us)

Fatoingled is sort of related to tangled, but emotionally. “I’m all fatoingled” can mean “I’m overwhelmed, all over the place, upset and anxious, etc.”

Growing up, a cloth diaper was a "ga ga." I used the term a few times after my first was born but dh asked me to please stop because it really bothered him. Some of my siblings still use it.

My oldest called his pacifier a "wowee" (pronounced woah - ee) and it stuck. That's what we call it for all of our kids.
