Lets say I order food for delivery via phone. I give credit card info. They ask, Tip for the driver? I say, yes, $3. Would you expect them to charge the card for the food plus the $3 tip, and then pay my tip to the driver? Or does it mean I am supposed to hand $3 cash to driver? And how would I know either way??

The tip is included in your charge.

Look at your credit card slip when they bring the food.
It should be on the card, but it will definitely be there in black and white and takes 20 seconds to see.

You mean it can go either way, and I have to specifically check receipt when they deliver to know if I should tip driver? Tonight I couldnt check until later, another person opened door, and was surprised they charged for food but not tip. Obviously it was too late to tip. I thought maybe there is an ettiquette for these things.

If as you're giving over your cc info, they ask you if you want to add a tip to the driver, that means they're adding it to your credit card charge and they'll be giving it to the driver on your behalf.

So this is what I assumed, but then saw the amount charged was without tip. So confused
