R‘ Steinman wrote in his will that he doesn’t recommend to name babies after him but also doesn’t forbid.
So do people do it? Have you met anyone who did?

Because you want to name after a tzadik and a big Rav.
Even if he says that he is not the tzadik he aspired to be, he is known for his modesty and was probably on a very high level and worth naming for.

I have at least 20 neighbors called after him (Israeli yeshivish). I never heard that he asked not to.
