I have a fourteen month old who’s very strong at standing on her feet but won’t take steps. How do I get her to try taking steps? I sit in front of her and try to get her to come to mommy but that doesn’t seem to work. I think she’s a bit afraid to pick up her feet. Any advice ?

Hold her hands and walk with her. Or give her something to push.

I hold something they like in my hand and when they try to grab it I give a tiny step back and sometimes they don't realize and they take a step or two

Really it's healthier for them to crawl but it's too cute when these tiny little things start walking

Give her time. This is a stage. No need to teach. She will do it on her own when she’s ready.

14 is Young. Relax and be patient. By 16/17 months they should be professional

If shes not walking when you ask her to come to you then she is not ready but you can do exercises to speed it up

-put a toy on the chair just barely a step away from the couch and try to get her to turn around to get to the toy and then back to the couch. A good example would be a shape sorter and the shapes on the other surface. when she is comfortable with that, you can slowly move the chair further and further away....
-sit on the floor next to her and have her bend down to the floor to get toys this will stengthen her core
-use something like a weighted doll carriage to have her push around
-does she walk comfortably holding on? Like from one thing to something else nearby or just across the couch? she has to feel comfortable walking holding on everywhere including holding on to just the wall.
-Does she stand in the middle of the room?

Every child is different but in my experience, once she is completely comfortable in all these areas will she feel confidant to leave go and take some steps

When my baby had pt at this age for other reasons, the pt did tricks to get her to walk and moved her feet in a walking motion to show her what to do. There is nothing wrong with helping her along.

You can get her evaluated for PT through EI and get it for free.

At 14 months?! That's well within normal range!
She's gaining confidence at her stability and you can search tips to show her how to move her legs to gain ground but this is totally normal not to be walking yet and she's not delayed at all.

This. My two oldest kids didn't walk until 18 months. Surprisingly, my 15 month old just started walking Smile

I never formally taught any of my kids. They get it eventually

One of my kids stood in middle of the floor at 14 months and clapped for herself…. For 4 months!!! At 18 months she started walking.
No need to do anything, op.
