I feel like I'm the only one in my circle who's struggling. All my friends seem to be going on as usual, vacations, camp, restaurants, new cars. And I'm shopping sales to finish the month.

Is your problem lower income or lost job (things that happen in a recession)

Or the inflation problem?

Inflation.
We got raises. We're being paid industry standard, even on the higher end, and yet inflation is killing us.
Our rent was raised. Tuition, raised $1500 per kid. Food is higher. Water. Gas. Insurance. Utilities.

I posted in another thread that I teach and was severely underpaid until now. My salary doubled bh so that's helping us cover our higher costs. Dh also got raised but not nearly enough in proportion to inflation. Then again, we were never big spenders so vacations aren't the regular, restaurants happen once a year for anniversary/birthday, and our newest car is 3.5 years old.

We didn’t get raises at all. My company laid off about 250 people last week. Everything feels so unstable. Grateful I still have my job.

Yesterday I realized how messed up things are when I was making breakfast and I dropped a raw egg. My stomach made a flip , like it would if I had dropped my daimond ring accidentally down the drain. The panic of losing even one egg at the crazy price it’s become, made me feel like I’m losing something precious 🙈

Really struggling ,
Is it because I'm divorced that it is so difficult? Do most households have 2 incomes?

Yes it’s been very hard for us. Day camp skyrocketed. So did playgroup tuition. And groceries are insane. So it’s very tight right now.

I’m definitely feeling it. But basics are covered it’s just the other stuff that I’m used to having and now I need to choose which things I have to cut out.

I'm living more frugally, waiting for big sales to buy clothing (still buying winter clothing, it's still winter), sending only two children to overnight camp instead of four and on big discounts hopefully. But I have food stamps so food-wise we are okay. It doesn't cover an entire month's bill but I do my best to stretch it as much as I can.

But at a certain point when you're already frugal there's nothing left to cut back on ☹️

I didn't vote cuz I don't know which one.

Dh went to work. So we have some savings now bh, but we could've had more. (I guess if I don't have emunah I can say that) We want to buy a house.

As everyone is saying, food, tuition, babysitting, electricity all went up.

I don't think had we not had a recession I would've gotten a new shaitel let's say.
I live frugal for my circles, (not ima frugal). I buy what I need. I serve chicken. I do chose the cheaper produce. I don't buy peppers when its $4.99 a pound. I don't buy myself new clothes unless I have to.

We are naturally not big spenders. We don't buy in fashion clothing, matching kids dresses, frum stores.... no vacations or eating out. Very little ready made food.
We have 2 incomes, professionals but I haven't gotten a raise in years (my company doesnt do raises, non profit). I am looking into other options. Husband doesn't make as much as others in his field either.

We are doing OK. Frugal. But ok for now. We won't be buying a home anytime soon.

It affected us in that certain extras that we were thinking would be in our reach ( house renovations, vacation, being able to save for the future) are completely out of reach for the time being. I’m disappointed, but keeping a healthy perspective helps in that we can pay the bills bh.

We already live very frugal. The only luxury item we have is cleaning help twice a week. We're able to just barely make it but have zero money for unexpected expenses. I don't know how I'm going to pay for my kids to go to day camp (staying home is not an option) because day camp prices have skyrocketed this year.

Yes. Most have 2 incomes nowadays unless one spouse is raking it in.
