I want to thank a playgroup morah for doing a special favor for my child. Not just a gift card or cash- don't want it to seem over the top or spendy, and would rather it be something more personal/thoughtful.
What have people given/received that would be appropriate- a homemade dessert for shabbos wrapped up nice? just a handwritten detailed thank you note along with tuition?
Thanks for ideas!

Fresh baked cookies or biscotties is so thoughtful IMO!

I think the only universal thing that people always appreciate and can use is money or a gift card.
Anything you choose there’s a chance she won’t want it or can’t use it for whatever reason, even and especially food, candy, nuts, bakery items.

And I would nix the gift card unless it's a universal thing like VISA, not to a specific store. Why? Because: for the sum you're giving, the store may have only mediocre items and a limited selection; the store may not have anything for the sum you're giving, so to get anything your recipient would have to spend her own money; your recipient may be a savvy shopper who can get merchandise for a better price elsewhere and feel that the gift card was wasted in that store; the gift card may expire before the recipient gets around to using it; many stores will not let you pay for a purchase by combining a gift card and cash, so if there is a small sum left on the card after a purchase, it's impossible for the cardholder to use up the balance. (This last is true also of some VISA gift cards, btw, not only store cards.)

Cold, hard cash is always the right color, size, style, and hechsher, and it's always gluten-free, cholesterol-free, sodium-free, nut-free, sugar-free and additive-free.
