He was bar mitzvah in the summer and received many gifts but we never got around to sending thank you cards. I feel sick about it. Do you think people are offended?

I think it’s not a good thing at all, it’s bad chinuch for your son and people feel insulted that their gifts aren’t acknowledged.
It’s not too late. He can still send them now and I recommend he does

It's not too late! Do it now! Btw I wouldn't remember but I know it there's always someone who does. My mom's friend complained to my mom that she didn't get one from me for our wedding. I remember writing it but I guess it got lost in the mail. Anyway I think less than a year later shouldn't raise eyebrows.
