Reaching out to other teachers… (upper elementary and hs)
Wondering how many of you are concerned that your students will now be submitting writings that that were generated for them by Al?
This is not exclusive to writing teachers. History essays, science research papers etc…
Is there any way to avoid this?
I teach in a mainstream by but many girls have use internet ( even though the schools frown upon it) .
This has become all the rage now , and I’m not sure how to approach it…
In the past if I suspected plagiarism, a quick google search was sufficient. This new mode is not able to be found that way…
So interested to hear what you are all thinking…

I saw that in NY it was banned. It’s a problem, I’m not sure how the schools will reinforce that.

It’s going to be a problem. I think over time you can start to recognize it. A way to get to know what your students are capable of doing on their own is to give a lot of in class writing assignments. And then you can see if they give in a paper that seems too good to be their work.

I've read that they're working on developing - or have already developed? - an AI detector that you can feed a suspected paper into for an assessment if it was written by a human or computer. Anyone know any more details?

I've already had a few students try to submit things that were so clearly written by a bot it was almost comical. There are websites you can use that will tell you if it appears to be bot-written or not. Honestly, the stuff it generates is simply not very good. And most of the questions I ask are not really able to be answered by a bot.

I know lots of people are using it for work.
You still need to edit to make it sound more natural and less like a robot though.
