Cricut question for newbie how to stencil

Hi! I know nothing about cricuts. I am looking to create a stencil, using either a firm plastic or vinyl.

My local library has a machine for use but we have to bring our own supplies.

Questions.

1. Does firm plastic work?

2. Are there any other supplies I would need?

3. I understand I would have to save the image I am looking to create into a stencil as an svg file? Is there anything else I need to know?

Depends which machine. The cricut maker can cut harderer stuff with the right blade. The explorer cannot cut hard plastic You can also use any png or jpg if it’s only one color.

Levittown. On the phone an employee said that their cricut is available for the public even without a library card, for free, just reserve a time slot online. Disclaimer, I didn't try it out yet so I hope that's accurate!

And if anyone knows, for the machines it lists, Cricut Expression and Cricut Explore Air 2, would I be able to print a custom image saved as a jpg file?

From amother Peachpuff's response I would think yes, but based on the descriptions on the website I'm not sure?
