I'm going out of my mind my chid is out a few days with fever, slight stomach pain.Otherwise doing OK Doctor didn't give any antibiotics. He said it's virul. All test for flu and strep came back negative. Meanwhile another child With same stomach ach hasn't missed a day because no fever. I know that for this child it's just the body way of reacting.
What is a working mother suppose to do???

No you can’t send your kid to school with fever. No if ands or buts. It’s extremely selfish.
The only time I considered it was when I was in the hospital giving birth and needed my husband to be with me and not home with s sick child (and even then we ended up finding a babysitter).

According to DOH fever is 100.3 or more. So I’d certainly send with 99 but nothing over 100.3

You can’t send a child to school with fever. Besides for being self to others it’s not fair to your child! They are sick! They belong home relaxing.

I thought 100.4. I'd take dc's temp when they're healthy, a bunch of times. Once you get a baseline, you can know what's normal for them. Yes, some bodies will have fever and some not, but the body is doing something that brings the fever.

Maybe 100.4. Either way my point is I’m ok with 99

I have one child with a very high regular temp. They regularly have over 100.4 but they’re perfectly healthy. I hid the thermometer and only take it out if they look sick otherwise they would be ‘sick’ half the month.

Agreed. I look at the kid. I kept one kid home for 99.8 and sent another with 100.1, because of the symptoms and the different baselines.

If a kid genuinely runs 100.6 with every cold and stomach ache and it happens often, I'd check with the doctor- you may have a different circumstance that allows for different rules. But if he gets something twice a year or so and this is how, then that's just how it is. If his constitution is more sensitive, he may still need the time resting to heal.

Fever means it's contagious. Please don't. My kid always gets sick from the sick one.

If the other child has symptoms of being sick, even without fever, maybe you should keep that one home as well? Rolling Eyes

What does the doctor say about this? As a pediatric nurse, this sounds concerning!
Fever is Hashems built in fighters of infection. Why is your child fighting something half the month?

Please keep your kid home. A virus and a fever, and a stomach bug are all very compelling reasons to stay home. It's not fair to that kid and it's not fair to the class or teachers. Yes it's very hard to be a working parent. I know they even have paid family leave to take care of someone who's sick. I'm not saying that this situation is that extreme, I'm just acknowledging that being a working parent is very hard when kids are sick. refuah shleima!

What? No it doesn’t. My children get fever when teething, sometimes when they have an ear infection….fever means your body is working to fight something.

I agree with the other ima here. That's not a normal baseline temperature. Check for UTI, ear infection etc.
