I just had a discussion with dh about our bottle issues. Ds keeps losing bottles. At least 2 have been broken by going off the mirpeset. I suggested that part of the problem is that we let him roam around with bottles all day, and he hides them. I suggested that we only give him a bottle when he is seated or in his crib. Dh is worried that if we do that he won't drink enough. It's hot here in Israel. Ds drinks very little while he is eating and does his drinking when he is moving around. What do you do? (He also pointed out that it's easy for me to talk since I'm not with him during the day...)
We agreed to cut out the juice, so he will drink more water. (It also takes care of the tooth decay issues I raised from the drinking the way he is now..) He gets one chocolate milk(we put the powder in ourselves to control the amount) bottle in the morning.
I'm going to try again to look for a sippy cup he will accept. He will not accept hard tips. I had one that he liked but he bit the soft part and it tore(on 2 of them). I'd welcome sippy cups recommendations as well. I don't want to spend too much if he is just going to lose it. I tried the disposable ones last week, but he learned how to take the lid off. He didn't drink from it all; he just spilled out the liquid.

Your son with the bottles sound like what we had with son #1 nearly 23 years ago. We learned our lesson. Since then, with consecutive kids, NO bottles in our house except for the (summer) babies who got water in them until they could drink from...
a sport top!!!!
Your child, if I may say so, is old enough for a cup at the table, which is where he should be at meal times. Doesn't matter what kind of sippy cup since it should not leave the kitchen. If you put water in it and nothing else, even if he spills, it's no big deal. A water bottle is good so he has liquid at all times away from the table. I would also like to add that milk in general is unnecessary in major amounts and should never have sugar things in it. Nor should he be drinking anything besides water to quench his thirst. Read about the poor amothers who have to take babies, toddlers and young children for dental work. You are his first line of prevention!
I don't think he will dehydrate. He gets liquids in his fruit, veggies etc.

Try the small playtex sippy cups with the two handles. The tops are soft. All my kids used them. And he also may enjoy you giving him from an actual cup during mealtimes. I do (and did) that with my baby now.

Finally found a sippy! At first it looked like I threw out another 30 shekel. I got the Life straw sippy (that said 15 months+) It took a while for him to get it. But wow! Today I taught to drink yogurt with a straw. I bought some of the more liquidy yogurts to try. Just last week, he totally didn't get it.
We have someone coming to take care of the mirpeset problem, but I don't know how long that will be. Yesterday dh found 1 bottle and 2 rings (from a toy) below. So, that remains a problem, but I'm not letting that sippy cup out of my sight.
He's still clueless how to drink from a regular cup...one of these days he'll get that too..
