I don’t understand if you can afford pesach why did you sign up for help? Sure we can always all use extra money but it’s meant for people who can’t afford it

I don't think you're stealing. But it sounds like your husband is uncomfortable taking this assistance. I suspect it's more about wounded pride than an actual halachic concern about stealing. But that is also valid. He probably feels like he has been turned into a chessed case suddenly, and he doesn't like to think of himself that way. He may also be afraid that word will get out and be embarrassed.
I understand why you signed up, but I think spouses should be on the same page before taking such a step if the family has never taken assistance before. Some people just don't want to do it, even if they legitimately qualify.
