We are iyh going to Israel for the first time, in the summer, for 2 weeks. 4 kids under 13. Where should we stay? Should we rent one apartment in Yerushalayim for the whole time, or move around a bit? Is Netanya nice to spend shabbos? Or any other places to stay for a shabbos/few days?

Netanyah is extremely hot humid in the summer. If you can handle it, it’s beautiful.
I’d suggest being in tzafon for shabbos. Tfat or Meron. But book now because they fill up super quick.

Palmach museum
Breads of the Beit Hamikdash
Gush Katif museum
Tzomet institute

Machane Yehuda
Hertzl Museum (way better IMHO than Begin museum)

AirBnB off of Ben Yehuda.
Walked to Kotel on Friday night, Great Synagogue Shabbos morning and Machane Yehuda Friday morning.

It was a fabulous trip.
I felt it important to balance Torah/Kotel, chessed, and the miracle/miserat nefesh of the Modern State of Israel.

(We also brought candy-a case of sour punch straws from Costco and every time we saw chayalim, my kids ran to give them treats and thank them for keeping Eretz Yisrael and Am Yisrael safe.)

Some other ideas which we didn’t do-dig for a day, sand surfing, Biblical Zoo- my kids were a little old.

Did but was least favorites- Israel museum.

Yad Vashem is probably not appropriate for your kids.

We are a Bnei Akiva/Moshava family. Our dream is to make Aliya. My kids talk about being Lone Soldiers.

Some notes -

What was referred to as Makom hamikdash was probably ‘machon hamikdash’ or Temple Institute. Definitely worth a trip when you are in the old city, needs to be booked in advance.

Re trips and hashkfa - I think what an earlier poster was alluding to was that if you are coming with an ultra chareidi background you may not want to visit places like the Bullet Museum or the Palmach museum. On the other hand, my yeshivish right wing family loved our trip to the Latrun tank museum and didn’t visit the others only because when you have two week, you prioritize sites you want to see.

The Blind Museum is probably not suitable for most of your kids so I would skip it.

Websites of tour guides would be a good place to get itinerary ideas.

Re where to stay - ideal would be to be able to spend a few days up north, but it depends on how much you can spend on accommodations. We had a place in Yerushalayim for our stay and also took an Airbnb for an extended weekend in Tzfas.

Adding that dig for a day and sandboarding are both fun, my kids especially loved sandboarding. Neither one is a must see or must do. Also reiterating that you should start mapping out the itinerary. Figure out what your “must-sees” and “must-dos” are, and plan around them. If you want to go to the Negev, then sandboarding makes sense. If you aren’t planning anything else in that direction, it probably doesn’t make sense to go.
