Look for a white sauce recipe and use that, but it will be extremely rich.

No Mac and Cheese is totally different. A bechamel is a white sauce with whole milk, flour, butter. Its a thick white sauce its delicious. It does not have cheese.
Mac and Cheese uses that sauce with different cheeses added.

It's a white (milk) sauce that is thickened with flour. I make many varieties like broccoli, mushroom, spinach, onion. Sometimes I do it with pieces and sometimes like with butternut you need to blend it.

I've subbed canned pumpkin for tomato sauce. I add in garlic and onion powder, or you could use fresh garlic and onion.

If you want a more traditional lasagna mouthfeel, sauce made with pureed pumpkin and thinned with a bit of heavy cream- seasoned with some garlic and salt, is delicious.
