I live on long Island (NY), not 5 Towns or Great Neck and drive a Hyundai Kona. I went to a new mechanic and was charged $74 for semisynthetic oil change. Last year, I paid $37! I have to change it every 3k or 6 months. If it were synthetic oil, I could change it in 5-6k.How much do you pay for an oil filter change? Please state your location and type of car..

It's high but not completely out of line.

It is easy to just call places and find out what the cost is in your location.

FWIW, everything is higher and oil in most locations needs to be disposed of properly because it is a hazardous waste.

Article has a list of cost of oil changes for various chains. I would assume Long Island would be on the higher end of the scale versus Podunk, Iowa.

FYI some places give a cheaper price if you have your own oil.
There’s different types for summer and winter

I wonder if we live in the same place and went to the same mechanic! I was also charged about that amount recently (I don't remember exact amount) and was completely shocked. Next time I plan to call around first to get prices from other places to see if this is just how much it is now or if I was ripped off.

We paid $70 in Lakewood for synthetic (not sure what semi synthetic is)…but the last time we had an oil change was.. I’m not saying 🫣

An oil filter change is close to $100 when we go for synthetic.

Maybe last year you got the non synthetic. That's cheaper.

Happens to be some Hyundais need a special part every time you get an oil change.. therefore its a bit pricer

In 5T area- just paid 130 for synthetic for 2 cars. Normally 70 but they gave us a discount for doing 2 cars.
