Usually the time on the invitation for the chuppah is the badeken time. Go about 20-30 min before then, bring him in, say Mazel tov, stay 5-10 min (depending on if there are classmates and other mothers there or not), and leave.
If you are able to, it is a huge chessed to offer to take some classmates with you, especially those from large families, ones who's mothers recently gave birth, etc.
