Open windows. Kitchen should be well ventilated.
Don't do when you're sleeping or not home because I know ppl whose oven started a fire during self clean

Self-cleaning cycles are not safe for birds, so I wouldn't want an infant or toddler in the kitchen when running it.
Turn on the hood fan, open windows, and yes, somebody should be home when doing this. I find that most fumes burn off in the first hour of the cycle.
