dh returned from a shopping trip with a huge roll of contact paper which he said was being sold for covering countertops instead of aluminum foil. Is he right? can I use contact paper? and if so, any tips for how to use it? do I actually stick it on the counters - any good way to do that without getting a lot of air pockets? or should I just tape it down? And if I do stick it on the counters, will it come off easily and without residue when I remove it after pesach?
tia!

Sure, I always used to use contact paper before I moved into a house with granite counter tops. You will probably get air bubbles, but no big deal-- just use the back of a knife or a credit card/library card to smooth them out. Yes, there will probably be some residue after pesach, but it will come off with some scrubbing/goo gone or whatever solution you use.

It really depends on the brand/quality. My mother used it for years to cover until a couple of years she bought one that left residue and gave up. If you're nervous you can always leave the backing on and tape down.

Wouldn’t do it unless taping it and leaving the backing on

Thank you so much! It will be a pleasure not to use foil! Now to decide whether or not to leave the backing on...

Just tape it and label it with marker so you can reuse next year.

Have you done this? That would be really amazing if I can reuse... it will still be in good shape by the end of pesach? I think its decent quality...Does it store okay? Do you roll it back up? Thanks!

Definitely leav the backing on and use white paper tape to stick it down. It’s a much simpler job to put on and remove that way.
