I don’t understand what a hotel scam is.

Just saw in Yeshiva world news the the claridge hotel in Atlanta isn’t opening this year cz of a scam.
What is this & how does it happen?

We are booked to go to a hotel in Cleveland just for last days. 😬

The guy running it was scammed and write a letter about what he went through

Hopefully the attendees can get their money back and make pesach at home or other hotel arrangements

If they get their money back in time they can most probably have enough for cleaning help and catered at home

It's possible he was just losing his pants because he didn't have enough attendees and didn't have enough money to pay vendors, and just wanted to cut his losses. How horrid for the signed up families. This has happened many times. Really scary.

Then again, maybe I should be Dan L'kaf Z'chus. Maybe he was a victim of the classic overpayment check scam and it brought him under.

How awful.

I feel terrible for everyone.
For the families, the vendors, staff, oysh.
Can’t even imagine the stress…
This is something that could really push someone over the edge.
& the embarrassment too.

The program got scammed and sent the money owed to hotel to a very sophisticated scammer.
You can google it to understand. Nothing to do with your program clearly

Possibly but there is a post on the other thread in which essentially the same man gives a very long winded explanation of how he was "swindled" or "misled" in some way as an explanation of why people who signed up for a Shavuous program got to the hotel and were told they would have to pay twice if they wanted to stay.

Call me cynical but I would say that he probably isn't running the programs well and in some way there wasn't enough cash or cash flow or whatever. Like the detectives say when the second wife or husband winds up dead or missing - the first one might be bad luck but nobody is unlucky enough to have their second spouse murdered as well.

Hi OP, I love in Cleveland and I have some acquaintances who are going to and/or running aspects of the Bertram Inn Midwest Pesach program.

In fact one of my children's friends was just telling them today that they went last year and are going again, and that it's really nice!

This is not their first year doing it. It's a program that his been running for quite a few years.

I wouldn't be worried. Iyh it will run beautifully!!

Thx!
I am not really worried. B’H.
The headlines of a pesach hotel scam got me a bit concerned.
As stated we are going for second days only and they have been super nice & accompdatong to deal with.
I am looking forward immensely
