Daughter travelling for summer on domestic U.S. flight. Does anyone know where they would store her guitar if she brought in on the plane as her carry on piece of luggage? Anyone know how much it costs extra-this is American Airlines JFK-LAX?

I made aliya on a plane full of teen aged kibbutz volunteers from Argentina. They had several guitars on the plane and were singing the whole way.
When I traveled last time they woman checking my bags told me that they don't want under the plane hat boxes or sheitels because they are expensive items that are easily damaged so they caused too many claims. I was allowed to take my sheitel in addition to my carry on. It is possible that a guitar not in the special hard cases used by professional musicians who travel frequently would fall in the same category.
