My son wears cotton beged, wool strings. DH wears wool all over.

I'm terrible at washing them. At some point, always look ruined, or shrunk, or tangled, even if I use a bag.

But if I wait until I have enough to make a cold or handwash worth it, then they're out of Tsitsit.

Teach me your cleaning habits. How do you keep them clean? How do you keep them nice? How often do you wash, and what do you wash with? How do you keep the strings from shredding or tangling?

I tie a hitch knot in them, the kind that comes free when you pull on the end. Then I wash them with rest of the clothes, untie, and line-dry.

By hand with Woolite, shampoo or Ivory soap. Don't wait to "have enough." You're not filling a machine, so you can do one or three at a time.

Better yet..."empower" dh and ds to wash their own.

When you hang them dry, do they develop an odd smell?

I gather the four strings together and wrap them tightly with aluminum foil. Then I put the tzitzit in a mesh bag and that goes in the regular laundry. When clean, I remove the tzitzit from the bag, unwrap the foil, and hang dry.

Wet wool smells bad but it should not smell once they dry

Bunch the strings together and fold them so that it's only 2-3 inches long. Use a small hair pony to tie them together tightly. It washes great like that, I don't put them in the drier. Hopefully you can visualize what I mean.

The strings get curly! Do these methods stop that?

Does anybody soak in oxygen? Something else?

Never was wool in hot, or change temperatures. They should be washed in lukewarm water for both the wash and rinse. Use woolite or another wool-specific detergent. You can soak wool as long as you want.

You can also air out the wool beged between wears. If DH has 2-3 pairs, he can rotate them and hang the ones he’s not wearing in fresh air to go longer.
