Is there anything that has a similar texture of cream or ointment that has these qualities?

- safe for a toddler to play with
- safe in case toddler puts into mouth but
- also doesn't attract bugs?
- doesn't stain?

Not looking for play doh to satisfy this sensory urge. This is not just sensory but also wanting to use all these things for girly stuff.

She's 2.5 and obsessed with getting into everything like that. I have no idea where my Vaseline is, I'll have to ask dh because this was confiscated after she put it all over her doll. she looves to grab my chapstick and put it on. she loves hair gel and loves putting it all over her hands. I can't let her get this stuff all over everything.

Any ideas?

Why don’t you provide taste safe sensory play in a huge container ? Some ideas: chocolate pudding doll wash , chickpea liquid from jar blended becomes foamy, there’s lots of edible paint recipes, boka toothpaste is ok to be swallowed if your looking for something like that. Not sure I’d want my child to squeeze a whole tub tho.. I’d definitely consider doing more sensory activities and explaining to her it has to stay in bucket, only toys that u give her to play with it can go inside etc.

If no instagram, check out her website. Lots of ideas and she sells an awesome resource “mothercould in your pocket” for just a few dollars. My 2.5 year old loves the activities I prepare from there

Mashed potatoes thinned with milk. Unflavored jello.
Plain yogurt thickened with corn starch.

You would obviously have to make it up fresh every time or refrigerate, and clean up well afterwards.

If you can find agar-agar, it's a gelling agent like plain gelatin and prepared like jello.

You can also cook plain cornstarch in water till it thickens, then cool. It will be like pudding, but like any starch it will attract bugs if left lying around.

Elmer's school glue is kind of lotiony but sticky of course. Washes out with water.

Thanks all! I'll look at that mother's website. Elmer's glue might not be a bad idea, thanks zaq.
